We are surrounded with beauty. Hundreds of years ago people would have maybe noticed the cycles of nature more than they do now. People are more preoccupied it seems with who is going to win X-Factor than noticing a new moon or raving about the delicate colour of a flower or moth. It is the artist's job then to show people the beauty around them. The artist's dilemma is to make money from their art and to have an income an artist will usually have to do art work that others want i.e graphics work on the X Factor!
This year I intend to buy some lino cutting equipment and work some of my computer sketches into that medium. Its good to learn and grow in new ways. Hundreds of years ago artists would use wood blocks to make their art with and this contrasts with the way we make art nowadays using the camera and the computer. Thanks to my computer literate husband who enables me to understand the technology.
