It is the season for Summer exhibitions and I went to the local Troon Art Club one on Wednesday. The smell of oil paint and fixative combinded with the residual smell of what is used as a multi purpose hall was all part of the experience.
The main attraction was a gigantic picture of a HIghland cow's portrait. The picture was at least 2 metres square and I noticed it had a red dot on it to say it had been bought! I looked for other red dots and found about two out of the hundred or so paintings. There was plenty of skills being honed at the art club. I was not really wanting to buy any of the paintings though except fot one lovely small painting of horse from a carosel with some lovely colours in the picture and there was a painting of two crows - I also liked this. However there was no way I would have bought the giant highland cow painting with its garrish red background!
A few of the local art club were wandering about the boards of art work and one lady asked another if she was in here to get some inspiration. She replied and said something about having to go and buy some new paints! I quickly left and pondered over the word inspiration.
As I was approaching the town I saw a lovely sight which was inspiring to me and I was glad that I did not have to go out and buy some paints and instead go onto the computer to make this art. Gone were the days when I would wait patiently in the art shop queue wondering which particular blue I could afford!

The best type of canvas used in earlier days, was the piece of hardboard painted over with canvas primer - I just could not be bothered with stretching a canvas then sizing and priming it. So it was with respect I looked at the art in the art club knowing how much preparation had gone into the making of the art work. I was glad that I could manipulate my images and duplicate them on the internet.
Here is the result of some inspiration. This image was done on the computer using the Artrage programme.
